Iran Claims Strikes on US Military Facilities Across Region
The exchange comes amid rapidly rising tensions between Tehran and Washington, alongside an ongoing escalation involving Iran and Israel. According to reports, US Central Command carried out strikes inside Iran earlier this week following the loss of a US Apache helicopter near the Strait of Hormuz, an incident American officials attributed to Iran.
Iranian officials said the US attacks caused damage to a telecommunications facility on Sirik Island and destroyed two water reservoirs in the Bemani district.
In response, the IRGC claimed it targeted the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain as well as four sites at Jordan’s Al-Azraq Air Base. According to the group, the targets included hangars used to house F-35 fighter aircraft.
Video released by Iranian authorities showed multiple missiles being fired during nighttime operations. The IRGC also stated that drones participated in the mission and claimed that a total of 21 targets were engaged across Bahrain, Jordan, and Kuwait, including a Reaper drone.
Jordanian military officials reported intercepting five ballistic missiles, while videos circulating online appeared to show interception efforts. Reports also indicated that Kuwaiti authorities intercepted aerial objects, and air raid sirens were activated in Bahrain.
The United States has characterized its strikes against Iran as “defensive” and “proportional,” maintaining that the AH-64 Apache helicopter was downed over international waters in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reiterated Tehran’s position on the issue, arguing that no international waters exist within the strategic waterway that separates Iran and Oman.
Prior to the latest developments, Iran launched strikes against targets in Israel, saying the attacks were in retaliation for Israel’s continuing military operations in southern Lebanon and strikes on Beirut. Israel later carried out retaliatory attacks despite appeals from US President Donald Trump urging all sides to avoid further escalation.
Iranian officials have argued that Israel’s actions in Lebanon violate a ceasefire announced by the United States and Iran in April as part of broader efforts to secure a peace agreement. Trump, however, has argued that “moderate” shooting does not amount to a violation of a Middle East truce.
